Sustainable Design is More Than Just a Trend

It’s a necessity that is changing our world. If you’re interested in sustainability, ecology and the climate crisis, then you’re probably already keen to apply green principles to your projects.

But do you also know what key questions you should be asking in order to build and design in a truly sustainable way?

Let’s talk about some of these questions, mentioning practical examples:

    • How can I integrate energy efficiency into my design? Think about using LED lighting, highly insulating windows and smart thermostats, such as those offered by brands like Philips Hue or Nest.
    • How do the materials I choose contribute to sustainability? Consider recycled, reusable or renewable materials such as bamboo or recycled concrete.
    • How can I save water and optimise the design at the same time? Water-saving taps and toilets, such as those produced by companies like Grohe or TOTO, are a must.

  • What role do renewable energies play in my project? Solar panels from Tesla or wind turbines can be incorporated into your design considerations.
  • How can I ensure that my building takes into account the health aspects of the users? Use low-VOC paints and ensure good indoor air quality

Locality is also a key concept in sustainable design. Have you thought about how you can use local materials and resources to reduce the carbon footprint of your project?

It’s exciting to see how brands and companies around the world are utilising sustainability. IKEA, for example, favours sustainably produced furniture and is committed to a circular economy. Or think of Patagonia, a company that is committed to the use of recycled materials and fair working conditions. How do you see developments in the field of green design? Are there any projects or brands that particularly inspire you? Share your thoughts and let’s learn more about the possibilities of sustainable design together. For more information and deeper insights, you can consult sources such as the Green Building Council or publications such as “Sustainable Architecture“.

It’s clear that sustainable design can change our world – and it’s up to us to shape that change. Are you ready to play your part?
