Whatever your brand of cosy, these more responsible knitwear brands are here to help for this season and many to come.

Our favourite ‘Good’ and ‘Great’ knitwear brands

For many people, knitwear is a seasonal essential, but did you know that a lot of it is made from damaging polyester or acrylic, which are both plastic-based? When shopping for more sustainable sweaters, scarves, sweatpants, and hats, opt for recycled wool or organic cotton instead.

Looking after your knitwear is also important to keeping it in good condition for years to come. That means folding it—instead of storing it on a hanger—to prevent stretching; seek out gentle fabric detergents that are friendly to natural fibres; and after washing, reshape the garment while it’s wet, then dry it flat and away from a strong heat source to make sure it returns to its original appearance. It’ll also pay to invest in a pilling comb to remove any bobbles that naturally appear on knitwear over time. We recommend Artknit Studios’ one.

With that, then, here are 20 more sustainable brands rated “Good” and “Great” against our methodology making knitwear you should know about.
